Grief
Grieving is as unique as each individual that experiences it. There is no one-size-fits-all reaction. We believe there are no stages. Rather, grief is like flowing water. It is sometimes quiet and serene; other times, it is fast-moving, or it can triple and crash. Stages of grief were intended to be attached to death and dying, not the grieving process leading to misinformation, confusion, and hurt.
What is grief?
As defined by The Grief Recovery Institute, grief is:
-
Grief is the normal and natural reaction to significant emotional loss of any kind.
-
Grief is the conflicting feelings caused by the end of, or change in, a familiar pattern of behavior.
-
Grief is the feeling of reaching out for someone who has always been there, only to find when you need them again, they are no longer there.
